The majestic 400 year old walls are possibly the most remarkable asset of Derry~Londonderry. The town remains the last of the fully walled cities in Ireland and one of the most impressive walled cities around the globe.

The walls themselves were erected by The Honourable Irish Society between 1613 and 1618. Their original purpose was to protect the city newly inhabited by Protestant settlers during the Plantation of Derry. With approximately 1 mile in length, 7 gates, 22 cannons distributed along the circumference and many educational boards, they offer a great opportunity for an hour-long sightseeing tour.

Walking around them, you can get an incredible view of the city and especially The Bogside. They also provide an excellent and unusual way of getting to different nearby places of interest such as The Siege Museum
