When studying the history of Londonderry and events connected with The Troubles, you cannot forget about a memorial called The Free Derry Corner. Located in the Bogside district, this solitary wall is a reminder of many struggles people of The Walled City had to face in the period of discrimination.

During the protests against inequity and government exploitations of police force, a local activist using graffiti painted a famous quote on the buildings on the Lecky Road: “You are now entering Free Derry”. This seemingly unimportant painting has been transformed into the symbol of resistance against the unjust local authorities. To this day, although the housing terrace is now gone, the wall still stands proudly, reminding citizens of their heritage.
