Lying outside the City Walls, Londonderry’s Long Tower Church of Roman Catholic worship opened its doors in 1788. The building was built on the site of an old Catholic temple dating back to the 12th century and was funded by Father John Lynch, who managed to gather the money needed not only from Catholic, but also Protestant people of Derry.

The sandstone walls of the church, built in a peculiar vernacular style, are certainly a noteworthy piece of architecture, which reflect the meditative atmosphere of the place.
