Being one of Derry’s most recognizable landmarks, The Guildhall has been the centre of city’s life since the late 19th century. To this day the building remains a remarkable and astonishing piece of architecture.

The structure originally built in place of an old town hall called the Market House in 1890 and financed by The Honourable Irish Society was destroyed during a fire and then rebuilt in 1912. Today, it functions as a meeting place of Derry and Strabane District Council’s members, venue of social and political events. Additionally , it is place of historical exhibitions focused around The Plantation of Derry. The majestic windows, which you can appreciate from the inside, tell the history of the town and its residents.

The square in front of The Guildhall is the main city square of Derry. It is where The Walled City Market takes place each first Saturday of the month and numerous events are held.

Walking in you can immediately feel the atmosphere of the place. It really is a remarkable experience. The wooden designs and enormous pipe organs guarantee the feel of a historic place. We highly encourage visitors to check it out!
